That time in the church with Daniel and Anna was quite strange. During that time I felt really protective toward Anna, thinking if Daniel was going to lose it, I was closer to him anyway. I wrote all that down afterwards, too, so this is from that...

We were asking questions of the Ghost Box and my name kept coming up. I was asking questions like "what do you want with me" and stuff like this. The freaky thing happened when I asked: "What do you want me to do? You're mentioning my name so what do you want me to do?"

"Leave," came the reply. Then underneath Anna's response to that, I heard "go". Words like that came up a couple of times when I was asking specific questions about what I should do and why it was interested in me.

In fact, we really never got an answer to that. With the Ghost Box stuff all it wanted me to do was leave.

Oh, there were other things while I was asking the questions… I could hear anti-gay stuff and it was those words I don't like (the F-word). I don't know if Anna heard them and chose to say nothing or what. It seems Daniel didn't hear it. But it was really abusive with the swearing and stuff.  It was saying fuckwits and the C-word as well.  So seriously abusive stuff.

Anna started to feel unwell, too. She felt as though she was going to faint. When we got back for tea, she still wasn't right and I could see it in her eyes she wasn't right. I pointed that out, too, and she said she felt it most around the eyes. Now that was interesting.

Then when we were asking questions, Daniel got up and started to go towards the table. He stood there and stared at us. According to Anna, Daniel initially looked in the direction of the pulpit area. He then looked at us with the most malevolent look on his face. Anna kept trying to get his attention: "Daniel… Daniel are you all right?"

No response.

When I looked at the face I'd seen that look before of him when he's really shitty with something. It's this kind of thin lipped pissed off look. Hard to describe, I know, but that's the best way I can describe it.  I guess disdainful of us is probably the best way to put it.

At the same time I knew I had to remain calm about it. I also knew if he did go stupid I was between him and Anna so I would have protected her anyway. In fact, I felt really protective of Anna at that point.

Then on the Ghost Box, I heard "torch" and instinctively I shone the torch right in Daniel's face. That seemed to snap him out of it, thankfully. "Wha… what happened?" and all this stuff. "How did I get over here?"

Anna, still really quite worried, asked him some questions along the lines of "don't you know what happened". She went through the whole thing with him and he had no recollection of what he had done. He said afterwards he felt he was a bit dirty, actually, like he needed a shower.

He really did blank out but the one overriding thing he said he felt was anger. Essentially he felt like we were a couple of idiots. Ironically, we were discussing this thing prior to that, I think, though my timeline on that could be a bit askew.

I think we did go outside to discuss it, I can't remember. Anna said out there she couldn't believe I was "so cool about it". I guess because I really didn’t quite know what was going on. And, again, I felt I had to be cool about it for her benefit – at the same time I'm not really an "Oh my God" reactionary type. You know something is up in a major way if I'm doing that.

Anna was genuinely concerned Daniel was going to punch her or something. She kept asking him questions he couldn't answer. He couldn’t remember anything about it at all. The thing is he didn't get annoyed at her over that, he was concerned himself he couldn't remember.

The interesting thing was when the Ghost Box was going through the stations, it stopped on this awful low guttural voice Anna and I really didn't like. It sounded really demonic. It seemed to be at that point Anna started to feel unwell and Daniel started to zone out.

We all went back into the church and I started to get that hate feeling myself. A few of us had to leave because we weren't feeling too great.

I'm glad I wrote all that stuff down as I don't remember a lot of it - especially when I was affected.  At the same time I still feel really awful and embarrassed at not accepting that apology. That really is out of character for me  :(

Hi Frank and welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for sharing your experience at the town.  Yeah that church can turn pretty cold very quickly.  As I said in my original post, "I believe it has many surprises yet.".. and it has had.  I will be putting some of the incidents on tour up in the next week or so.

It is really great to hear other people's experiences off tour, especially daytime experiences.  I am going to guess that the volunteer you talked to was the one that had an experience herself in the Church.  When I went up to interview her, she was shaking like a leaf and refused to go back in.

If you ever go back there would love to hear if you have anything more happen.

Has anybody else ever experienced a daytime incident?

Hi Alison,

thought I'd share our experience of visiting the Wolseley Church at Old Tailem Town (though not on a tour, just a general visitor).  My wife and I took our 10 y.o. niece to OTT as she was holidaying with us, this was the first time we had been to the town even though we are local and friends with Peter and I went to school with his son Danny (oops!).   The day was warm but there was no wind and few people, we entered the church and within a couple of minutes the temperature in the hall dropped noticably and when my wife suggested we leave the door to the rear of the church slammed shut so violently that dust was dislodged from the light fittings.   After leaving and visiting some of the other buildings we mentioned the church to our friend who is a volunteer at OTT, whose response was simply "I dont go in there!"

Aradale was established in the town of Ararat.  Built in 1867 this Asylum is the biggest abandoned Asylum in Australia and it also managed to kill around 13,000 people in it's working days.  It is said to be one of the most haunted locations in Australia so why not book in for one of their tours and find out for yourself.

I haven't yet had the pleasure to do this tour yet, but I do know these guys that run it and if it is as good as their other tours they will be great!  And what a wonderful place to hold tours... not jealous at all *coughs*

Maybe somebody trying to get your attention?  You said two times in the townhouse you live, what was the other one?
Do you have any background history to the house or the area?

Hi Alison,

Thanks for the welcome. He never spoke to me he was simply just there 'watching'.

I have had two experiences in my house. When I moved in, i always had a feeling that I wasnt alone and that there was someone always behind at the (left) of me. One day I was heading upstairs and something wacked me over the head causing me to duck and think 'what the'. No idea why, or who, but it rattled me. Sounds completely nuts but it made me head downstairs, grab my keys and leave for the rest of the day. The feeling that someone is 'here' has gone.

Ghost Tours/Paranormal in the Media / Conversations with Richard Fidler - ABC

One of the most requested interviews that I have done, is the one I did with Richard Fidler on the ABC radio.  Some may remember Richard from the Doug Anthony Allstars, but since those days has gone on to more serious roles.

Although Scientifically minded, he was very accommodating to the subject of the paranormal and a lovely person to chat to.  As soon as I entered the studio he was warm and welcoming and quickly put me at ease.  He was even appalled when he referred to my research team as 'Paranoid Field Investigators' instead of 'Paranormal Field Investigators' in the interview.  I told him it was amusing and should keep it in but being professional it never made the cut lol.

So here is the link to the interview for those that wanted it:

Another ABC interview I did that led to this one, was with Brett Williamson who was also a lot of fun to be interviewed by.  The link to this one is:

It was certainly a night that had me standing there in the church going "What the...... "

It was the first time in the 8 years I have been conducting tours that I had to pull a halt to one.  Roll on the next Blood Moon!!! :P
